This is a tough question. People dont typically switch to someone else because of better pricing or a really nice guy at the end of the line. They switch because something went horribly wrong with their previous supplier. We get comfortable talking to the same people every time and we know what to expect. Switching suppliers can be a pain. How long will it take to get a net30 set up? Who do we call when something goes wrong with a shipment? Will we always get this type of pricing or is it just to get us to switch over? And, when you have a demanding user base(most of us do), any hiccups in procedure can really make or break this new relationship.
So, what would it take to switch?

It takes something to go wrong.
Then, we need to be aware that you exist. So, you have to be known about, but not pushy, because that goes directly in my I will never speak to them again pile. As Tartanarmy state, Do not me the first couple of days I download a free trial. Hell, Ive gotten calls within an hour of downloading software. I havent even read the directions/requirements/etc yet!!! But, its stuff like that, that drives us IT people crazy.
And, your first order better go through without a hitch. First impressionsand all that. But, its more than first impressions If we get the authorization to switch over to a new company, interrupt timelines due to a new account setup and all that, and then something goes wrongit reflects poorly on us. So, you havent just tarnished your reputation. Youve tarnished ours. You simply cross our name off a list and move on. Worst case scenario for us, were looking for another job. Best case, we hear Bob in sales behind a cubicle partition bad mouthing us. Neither is acceptable to me. I need to have the trust of my users.
