From the perspective of control, more than 70% of surface grinder exhibits are CNC-controlled, with single-axis, double-axis and three-axis CNC, up to five-axis control, especially large-sized models above 400, all of which are CNC-controlled. Due to the development of technology, surface grinders have changed from traditional surface grinders to forming grinders, and conventional control has been difficult to achieve functional requirements. CNC surface grinders have become a market trend.

From the functional point of view, more than 50% of flat grinding is not only used for horizontal plane processing, but also for surface grinding processing such as forming, step, cutting, fast shaking, and three-dimensional space curve. For example, the five-axis linkage grinding center based on flat grinding by ELB and BLM can realize the grinding of non-planar complex surfaces; the flexible grinding system of Unison and Trutech can realize the grinding processes such as forming, centerless, external circle, tool, and contour; and the fast shaking grinding of Yufu and Parker, etc., reflecting that flat grinding is the model with the greatest evolution potential among grinding machine tools.

The development presents four major changes:

High speed, compound, high precision, and high rigidity are still the main themes of the development of metal cutting machine tools, but there are new changes. Compounding has changed from compounding for compounding's sake to considering practicality and efficiency, such as compounding of turning and milling, compounding of turning, milling and drilling, and compounding of milling machine and EDM; from the perspective of function, compound machine tools are highly targeted and are considered for certain types of parts; from the perspective of accuracy, machine tools with positioning accuracy <2μm and repeated positioning accuracy ≤±1μm are everywhere; from the perspective of spindle speed, 8.2kw spindle reaches 60000r/min, 13kw reaches 42000r/min, and high speed is no longer the exclusive feature of low-power spindles; from the perspective of rigidity, machining centers that can process 60HRC hardness materials have appeared.

Modular design has been widely used in machine tool manufacturing. The modular design of horizontal series, vertical series, full series, and cross-series is fully reflected in the exhibits.

The concept of full automation has changed. Traditional fully automatic machine tools use a pneumatic or hydraulic manipulator to achieve automatic loading and unloading of workpieces, but there are more than 10 machining centers and turning centers on the exhibition, which use true multi-joint serial robots to achieve loading and unloading of workpieces, including the stacking of finished parts. The control range is expanded, the flexibility of the assembly line is enhanced, and the auxiliary supporting machinery is greatly reduced.

Environmental protection requirements are getting higher and higher. Among the exhibits on display, most of the machine tool products use fully enclosed covers, and there is absolutely no chip or cutting fluid splashing. On the other hand, the exhibition of a large number of industrial cleaning machines and cutting fluid treatment machine systems also reflects the increasingly high requirements of modern manufacturing for environmental protection.

The fundamental development of flat grinding in the future lies in design innovation:

Flat grinding is the machine tool with the greatest development potential among grinding machine tools. In addition to completing the traditional surface grinding function, it can evolve into external cylindrical, curved, tool, centerless and other grinders based on the flat grinding bed, slide, table, grinding head and other large parts. After completing the improvement of the flat grinding specification series, my country should jump out of the traditional surface grinding thinking and turn to the idea of ​​non-surface grinding processing such as curves or contours to further develop and form technologies and products with our own characteristics.
